Thomas E. Palecek, in Memoriam

Thomas Palecek, 77, who served on council since 2004 and as council president since 2006, passed away April 5 in Arizona after a battle with cancer.

After working with Palecek for 43 years at the law firm Palecek, McIlvaine, Hoffmann & Morse, Jim McIlvaine said he remembers Palecek as an esteemed colleague and a dear friend. "Tom was just a great human being," McIlvaine said. "He had his priorities straight and was very committed to family, his faith, his work and the community."

McIlvaine said he was working as a prosecutor in Summit County when he first met Palecek in 1970. He said that when Palecek and another attorney were looking to open a law firm in Wadsworth, Palecek asked McIlvaine if he would be willing to join them. "I have been happy every day that I made that decision," McIlvaine said. "Tom was well respected among his peers in the bar association. He was tough as an attorney in negotiations, but he was always a gentleman. I was very happy to know him."
